the 9th Annual Tolkien Blog Party tag: my siblings’ answers.

I have seven siblings, but for the purposes of today’s post, I’ll only be putting the tag questions to two of them: my ten year old brother who is almost as obsessed with LOTR as I am (he’s seen all six Jackson movies, and read some of The Hobbit–and he also knows a good bit of the lore thanks to me) and then my almost sixteen-year-old sister who is a…lukewarm fan at best (she’s seen only the LOTR theatrical editions). But she wanted to do this tag when I mentioned it to my brother.

My brother’s answers (slightly edited for clarity):

Aragorn: Favorite Tolkien hero/heroine

Gandalf. Because he’s such a good leader and he’s so wise with his decisions. He’s so great. And he’s really kind.

Boromir: Favorite Tolkien character arc

Thranduil. He said to Tauriel “This love you’re feeling for the dwarf, it’s not real”. And then later on she says “Why does it hurt so much?” and he says “Because it’s real”. That’s one of my favorite parts.

Frodo: Favorite song or poem by Tolkien

The song that Bilbo sings to the spiders in The Hobbit, because it shows how Bilbo is funny with mocking the spiders. I really like that part.

Gandalf: Favorite wise Tolkien quotation

I love the part when Gandalf tells Frodo “All we have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to us”. So sad!

Gimli: A Middle-earth location you’d like to visit

Lothlórien, because Galadriel lives there. I would love to meet her and look into the Mirror.

Legolas: Favorite Middle-earth Weapon

I kind of like the sword that Gandalf uses, the one he finds in the trolls’ cave. That one is so cool.

Merry: Favorite way to celebrate Tolkien’s stories

Listening to the soundtracks.

Pippin: Favorite funny Tolkien quotation

This one:

He liked visitors, but he liked to know them before they arrived, and he preferred to ask them himself. He had a horrible thought that the cakes might run short, and then he-as the host: he knew his duty and stuck to it however painful-he might have to go without.

Samwise: A Middle-earth food you’d like to try

Lembas.

My sister’s answers (slightly edited for clarity):

Aragorn: Favorite Tolkien hero/heroine

Sam, because he’s the only thing keeping Frodo sane most of the time.

Boromir: Favorite Tolkien character arc

Pippin.

Frodo: Favorite song or poem by Tolkien

The one Pippin sings to Denethor.

Gandalf: Favorite wise Tolkien quotation

When Sam says “If I take one more step, it’ll be the farthest I’ve ever been from home”.

Gimli: A Middle-earth location you’d like to visit

The Ent forest, so I could climb the trees.

Legolas: Favorite Middle-earth Weapon

The shining thing that they use to get the spider away.

Merry: Favorite way to celebrate Tolkien’s stories

When we had first and second breakfast [on my, Eva’s, birthday].

Pippin: Favorite funny Tolkien quotation

Something that Pippin and Merry said made me laugh (or laugh internally), but I can’t remember it.

Samwise: A Middle-earth food you’d like to try

Definitely nothing that Denethor is eating. *imitates Denethor’s disgusting eating* Bilbo’s birthday cake.

I hope you enjoyed reading through those; I know I had fun hearing what they had to say! I’ll pass along any comments to them–they want to hear what y’all have to say. 😉

See you here tomorrow!

  1. This is so sweet that you included your siblings!! I could hear their voices in my head as I read through their answers, which was really fun ❤

I like Sam's quote about being the farthest he's ever been from his home, too.

You guys did first and second breakfast?? THAT'S THE BEST IDEA I'VE EVER HEARD

*sends hugs up to Canada for all of you*

    Like

  2. *gasp* I never thought of the Light of Earendil as a weapon, but it is, if you think about it! I’m going to mentally change my answer to that one. xD
